Your Home is YOUR Castle, Right?

Your home is your castle...and "Privacy" can be Assumed?

We've all grown up hearing the old adage, your home is your castle. People firmly believe that. They believe that what happens in their home is private, and they will defend their "castle" in many different ways.  While ancient castle owners built moats to keep out marauding invaders, today's "castle" owners had better come up with the electronic equivalent - and fast, if they hope to continue to defend their privacy!   Since you are reading this article, it is safe to assume that you are on the internet somewhere.  And I'll bet you think nobody's watching.  (tuck your undershirt in by the way...) But, it's likely that whether you're sitting in your Lazy boy in your living room with your beer in one, PC on your lap, or sitting properly at your home office desk - SOMEONE is watching EVERY
click, keystroke and possible the *content* of every message.   Think I'm paranoid?  Consider this: Congress (yes, our elected officials) have actually begin subpeoning the records of 33 leading internet companies (including AT&T, Microsoft, Time Warner and Google) over their internet behavioral "profilng"   And yes, profiliing means exactly what you think it means. You visited "Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition Page", then you went and looked up some goofy questions on the Molson website. Then maybe you traversed over to eHarmony.com.  Think they don't know you're a single guy that likes imported beer - and if they dig a little more, they'll find out what kind of food you eat, your income bracket and your spending habits.  Don't think they're doing it?  Think AGAIN. And if Congress got involved - you know that it is actually WAY worse than anyone's admitting.

The following link from The Electronic Privacy Information Center provides some eye opening information on who is watching what on the internet and phone lines.  Be afraid. Very afraid.  I think it's time to build a moat.
